Magical powers of Google…

Well once again I started 'Googling' to find some information. This time I started to Google a bit on Google's Network, their platform and how Google has used Cluster Computing. And here is a gist of all the articles that I read.

 

Google has many clusters and these clusters are located all around the Globe. Whenever we try to connect to Google's website a load balancing is done in order provide the service in lightning speeds, IP address of a cluster which is not subjected to heavy loads and more over the cluster should be of the close proximity to the user cater our needs. Just imagine all these functionalities are being done in background at high speeds. And a single cluster can have many servers (can be even in thousands) and even in the cluster further load balancing is done so that what ever we give as a "Query' is directed to the Web server which is not heavily loaded.

So what on earth is a Cluster, A computer cluster is a group of loosely coupled computers that work together closely so that in many respects they can be viewed as though they are a single computer. Clusters are commonly, but not always, connected through fast local area networks. Clusters are usually deployed to improve speed and/or reliability over that provided by a single computer, while typically being much more cost-effective than single computers of comparable speed or reliability.

And there are many different servers here is the main classification:

• Google Web Servers
• Data-gathering servers
• Index servers
• Document servers
• Ad servers
• Spelling servers

Hardware failures are the ones which is not acceptable, to avoid them Google uses another critical thing called as mirroring (RAID), so if in any case a Hardware failure occurs there are supporting ones which stand out in productive mode.

Man o Man, it is mind-boggling (I should say mind-Googling), simply awesome. In my previous article I have written about the Mysterious Billboard which was used for scrutinizing the Resumes of all the Mathematical Geeks. This makes to feel that everything is only a number game……
