The Clarion call

Yet another New Year. Its time to recap the horrors that the world has undergone in 2005, like the Indian Ocean Tsunami, Floods in Mumbai and Chennai, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the earthquake in Northern India and man made horrors like the mass firing at Amarnath, Bombshells at Delhi, the Call Centre outrage and the recent firing at IISc, Bangalore. Too much has happened in too less a time, leading to a sense of insecurity everywhere.

The world now needs to rest in peace in total harmony with its inhabitants.

Though we may not be able to avert natural disasters, we can at least prevent manmade ones. How many more years should we fight amongst ourselves in the name of politics, religion, beliefs, caste and creed? Is not the blood shed by our Brethren enough to cleanse our minds? Or don’t the sufferings undergone by the victims at Kashmir move our hearts?

As far as all of us know, there still hasn’t been born a religion which preaches hatred.

“Love All and Serve All” is the message that all religions preach. And it is high time that we absorb this great message and move ahead, instead of looking back and harbouring hatred.”

But I firmly believe that “thought” is the foundation for any act – good or bad – a single “thought” was what made Osama Bin Laden to shatter the prestige of America. Again a single “thought” was what made Mother Theresa to dedicate her life for humanitarian service. It was also this single “thought” which made Father Damien to sacrifice his life for the cause of Lepers.

“Thought” is the basis for all that happens in the world and it is this “thought” which should be targeted for ushering in a peaceful world.

A good thought will lead to a good belief. A good belief will lead to a good action. A good action defines a good human being. And good human beings are the Angels that bring Heaven onto Earth.”

As Technology moves in leaps and bounds, so much so that yesterday’s technology is today’s antique, is it not appropriate that we move forward in thinking beyond our homes, beyond our societies, and maybe even beyond our nation? – a good Samaritan and a world citizen?
All these identities and beliefs find their roots only in our thinking. They find their boundaries only in our minds.
It is in our hands to move beyond all this and bring peace to our world. Just imagine a world where every citizen thinks like this! There would then be no need for boundaries and armies! Governments can think of improving their nations rather than invest time and money heavily into Defense.
Then let us all welcome the New Year by planting the seed of one good thought:
